Alzheimer’s Disease Care
The Ellenberger Unit is a 20-bed specially designed unit to meet the needs of individuals who have Alzheimer’s or dementia-related diseases. Special consideration is given to assure a safe and supportive environment. Programming has been designed to attain or maintain each individual’s strengths. All services are provided by a staff who has been instructed in techniques to promote the continued independence of each individual resident.
The physical setting is one that enhances the individualized care provided. The homelike atmosphere of Dining and Gathering Rooms provide environments conducive to the well-being of residents and offer comfortable spaces for visiting with families. A popular attraction is an aviary, the home of love birds whose activities fascinate residents and visitors alike.
Unique to Homeland is The Dorothy S. Hollinger Conservatory.
Glass domed and filled with tropical plants, flowers and a waterfall, it provides a safe, therapeutic environment where residents can experience the benefits of nature.
Interested residents work with a Master Gardener in a planting area. The purposeful use of plants and plant-related activities to promote resident health and wellness through the use of Sensory Stimulation, Montessori Activities and Reminiscence Therapy.
Resident benefits also include the promotion of positive social relationships, a sense of ownership and accomplishment, increased self-esteem, and increased opportunity for positive concentration and exercise.
